Deathwish

Death

Just five letters yet feared more than any other word.

Dormant, Buried.

Watching waiting.

Persevering till the right moment.

Silent and stealthy,

Always creeping like a shadow,

Precise or punctual,

She finds the right time to walk through you.

Perhaps she's an ingrained symbiote,

When she falters she takes you with her.

Or perhaps a grand dish

of which you can just taste a bit.

She whispers and puts you to sleep,

A lullaby which cannot be unheard.

A slumber than cannot be woken.

Ceaseless hibernation.

A strike that never misses,

She gets who she wants.

Survival is not cheating it,

It's just teasing with taunts.

For all work and no play makes Jill a dull girl.

Life.

Never as short as the word is.

A temporary phase of existence,

Between nothingness and eternity.

Rigid and dynamic unlike the frank uniformity of dear death.

A thick wire with kinks, is life,

Death puts the tension to straighten it.

Rectification.

Tragic?

I think not-never a wiser decision.

A clean fair judgment.

She knows what lies ahead,

Prevention is better than cure.

Embrace her, respect her, show her love,

For it's she who decides whether you go below or above.

I honor thy presence,

Show me the pit,

My heart's in your hands,

Sever it at will.

Curtail the happiness if you must

For I trust you calculation,

Incinerate my soul and blow the ashes,

Show yourself satisfaction,

Help us define salvation...

  1. It'd be great writing an explication of this poem. But I'm not doing it yet. It just springs to mind.

The errie feeling could be felt right from 1st till 5th stanzas. The most feared word. You make your readers feel the intensity of death. "She" seems cunning in taking one's life unpredictably.

You cleverly make a comparison between life and on the other hand, question on tragic, if it's avoidable. But accepting the fact that if there's life, there's death and "She" has the ultimate power.

Just a little critical appreciation, the way I see it. Excellent! :)

  3. yes agree about death. . actually anticipating death is worst than death itself. . death is the ultimate experience. .
